BIOGRAPHY – Ronald Steven Ridgeway

Ronald S Ridgeway is an independent artist/curator and entrepreneur. Before graduating The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in NYC on full-tuition scholarship, he started his own graphic design firm.  His drawing, painting and sculpture were already in public, private, corporate and museum collections.  He continued to grow his business and exhibit his art works. After several years with a few partners, Ronald Ridgeway Incorporated was founded in NYC and he continued to work over the next quarter century with Hearst, Mercer, JPMorganChase, Sony, Apple and many others producing award-winning design work building strong client relationships.

Moving to Minneapolis in 2005, Ridgeway blended his brand design experience with his passion for fine art. At his core, there was the need to help others with their artistic dreams and support the art community. He founded The Art Leadership Program, an innovative collaboration that brings together leading artists and corporate leaders to showcase art for the community to enjoy in unexpected spaces. Since 2010, there have been over 50 exhibitions installed in the network of Gallery One locations featuring local emerging, mid-career, and established artists. Ridgeway curates the TractorWorks Building in the North Loop district of downtown Minneapolis including, Gallery One, and Gallery One Eleven.

Ron Ridgeway works in a series producing conceptual, site-specific art installations with a variety of mediums and different art forms.  At present: 1} Road Sign [RS] Series, started in 2001, continues the repurposing of road signs using photography, collage, aqua-media and assemblage. These are most frequently placed as site-specific integrated way-finding systems in the space provided. They have, in some cases, historical and contemporary connections. 2} Experiments in digital technologies include art direction of videos, sound design, projections, and applications of iPhone photography on paper, canvas, wood, metal, and other substrates.  3} Consumer Packaged Goods [CPG] are pop icons, both male and female, rendered in collage, paintings and drawings with “txtmssgs” included in the art installations.

Ron Ridgeway worked as an adjunct instructor for the Minnesota School of Business and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He continues art classes and workshops during his artist-in-residence at the BchHaus Artists Retreat in Long Lake, MN.
